Code of Conduct
Please understand the following is expected of you when volunteering with Voices of Hope.

Conduct
VOH volunteers are expected to follow rules of conduct that will protect the interest and safety of all volunteers, staff and Voices of Hope. The following are only some examples of inappropriate conduct which could lead to dismissal.
● Theft or inappropriate removal or possession of Voices of Hope’s property or that of any VOH volunteer, staff, agent, or visitor including failing to cooperate fully in any VOH investigation.
● Altering VOH reports or records
● Volunteering under the influence of alcohol or illegal drugs and/or illegal or unauthorized possession, distribution, sale, transfer, or use of alcohol or illegal drugs in the volunteer environment.
● Creating a disturbance on VOH premises, at sponsored activities or in areas, which could jeopardize the safety of others.
● Improper use of VOH’s property or property owned by any other individual or organization.
● Lack of cooperation, or other disrespectful conduct.
● Violation of VOH, federal, state, or local safety and health rules.
● Inappropriate use of telephones, computer equipment or systems, mail system, e-mail system, or other VOH- owned equipment.
● Unauthorized disclosure of VOH proprietary or confidential information.


Code of Ethics
I strive to:
● Put a positive face and voice on recovery from alcohol and other drug addiction
● Maintain high standards of conduct
● Treat others with dignity and respect
● Report and remove myself from real or perceived conflict of interest
● Not exploit personal relationships with VOH for personal gain
● Not sexually exploit or harass other individuals under any circumstances
● Not act in any way that violates the civil, legal, or ethical rights of others.
● Resist gossip, hearsay, and rumors.
● Remember that in the eyes of the public, we represent people in recovery at all times and that your actions influence how the community sees the recovery movement.

Voices of Hope Confidentiality Agreement
I understand that while in my volunteer position at Voices of Hope, I may have access to confidential information. Confidential information includes but is not limited to printed information, oral information, and information stored and accessible by electronic facilities. I recognize that this information is private and must be kept confidential.
I agree to access information and related systems in a manner consistent with my approved volunteer job function and for conduct of my work related to my assignment only.
I understand the right to confidentiality of health information is protected by federal laws and the confidentiality and procedures of VOH. I understand that if I violate a client’s right to privacy and confidentiality, I may be subject to civil or criminal legal action and/or termination from my volunteer position.
I will not share confidential information except as required as by VOH’s policies and procedures and only within the legitimate scope of my volunteer position with VOH. I understand that this restriction is in force at all times.
I will follow the VOH Code of Conduct and Ethics as outlined in the Volunteer Handbook.
My commitment is vital to helping VOH achieve their mission of supporting the recovery community. When I pledge to a volunteer opportunity with VOH I will make every effort to being reliable and punctual and maintain the level of professionalism expected by VOH.
I understand that if I am contacted to volunteer but am unable to or do not show for my volunteer shift four (4) times, I will be placed on an inactive volunteer list until I contact VOH.
If I volunteer for Telephone Recovery Support or the Family Warm Line, I understand the importance of following the protocol and recovery language on which I am trained and will faithfully adhere to the guidance.
In summary, I am familiar with and agree to uphold and enforce VOH’s confidentiality policies and procedures at all times. This confidentiality pledge will survive the termination of my volunteer service at VOH.
